There are all kinds of different choices for a shamrock tattoo, see which options you like the best and find a great tattoo artist that can help you out.
Picking Out Your Tattoo Designs
Finding The Shamrock That You Want
The first thing that you have to do is find a great looking shamrock. People like different things, so the shamrock tattoos that you like may like may not be the one that everyone else likes. There are a lot of great options that you should search through if you don’t have the best idea of what you want, look through books and use the internet to help you look at ideas. Chances are, you’ll find more than one option that you like and it will be a matter of posting on Facebook, Twitter, emailing it out to all your family members and doing everything you can to get a vote of what you should get.
Having Your Shamrock Tattoos Drawn Up
For a lot of people, they really want to have that unique tattoo; they don’t want to have the shamrock tattoos that everyone else has. This is when drawing your own tattoo art is a great idea. If you draw like a Kindergartner, that’s ok, find someone that is better at tattoo art than you and let them draw it up. Most of the tattoo artists that you visit will actually be able to draw it up, so let them put their unique spin on it and appreciate what they have to offer. You may just find a perfect shamrock tattoo that you loved and is something that you had never even dreamed of.
Getting a Celtic Shamrock Design
If you are looking at the shamrock tattoos because of your heritage, you may want to look at the Celtic designs that are out there. This is something that is more uniformed, but you are putting it on your body, so go ahead and find a way to make it your own. Celtic art and culture is a huge part of a lot of people’s heritage and if you want to wear your heritage with pride, you can totally do it. Look at the options for the Celtic designs and see which ones you like the best, you’ll find one that you’ll fall head over heels in love with.
Looking at the Luck Four Leaf Clover Designs
For some people, it isn’t about a beer drinking holiday or their Irish roots, it’s about good luck. If you are superstitious, don’t go digging through the clover fields, you can just get one inked on you and have it with you wherever you go. Take your luck with you with a great four leaf clover and know that it is following you wherever you go. Don’t let your superstition send you searching through fields, put the good luck directly on you with a great tattoo.
Finding a Quality Tattoo Artist
Don’t Use the Guy That Tattoos out of his Basement
Everyone knows that it just isn’t a great idea to hire the tattoo guy that works out of his basement, no matter how good of a friend he may be. You want to go to the person that has an established shop that you can walk into. You want to be able to see how clean their shop is and that sort of thing. Even if the guy working out of their basement was my brother, I still wouldn’t go to them, find a qualified tattoo artist.
Look at Their Tattoo Designs and Work
Any tattoo artist should either have a book of their tattoo designs or photos of what they are proud of. You can use this to judge and determine if you want to use this tattoo artist. If you see a guy that does a lot of hearts and stars, you may want to avoid him and find a guy that does more clovers, ask them what they specialize in, they will definitely tell you and they will be able to let you know if they are comfortable with what you want them to do. It makes it a lot more comforting knowing that you are able to get what you want and get the best tattoo that you can so that you don’t regret what you have done.
Ask About Touch Ups and Follow Ups
Make sure that with any tattoo artist that you are asking if you can come in with your shamrock tattoos for touch ups. You will find that once it heals, sometimes it will fade or a portion may peel off with a scab. It isn’t a big deal, but you already paid for the tattoo once, ask your tattoo artist if they will honor a touch up for free or what they will charge, that way you know what is going on and if there are going to be added costs that you should expect. You will generally need to get your tattoo touched up every once in awhile, especially with a green shamrock because the color may fade over time.
Don’t Make your Tattoo Artist do all your Maintenance
There are certain things that you need to do when you are getting a tattoo and ways that you are going to want to take care of your new shamrock tattoos. Make sure that you aren’t exposing these tattoos to too much sun too soon; it can cause it to fade prematurely. You also should make sure that you aren’t letting the skin get to dry, this can cause fading also. Just make sure that you are taking good care of the tattoos that you have so that you aren’t constantly getting it redone and getting it touched up, which is just going to get expensive on your part.
A shamrock tattoo can be great for a variety of reasons, you have to decide which style you want and go ahead and get it done. If you are interested in shamrock tattoos or have been thinking about them, go get it done! What are you waiting for? You only live once! Find a great tattoo artist that will be able to help you draw up what you want and make it look incredible. But, make sure that you are finding a tattoo artist that you actually trust so that you aren’t getting something done that you are nervous about. A shamrock tattoo is amazing, but it is forever, so make sure that you are ready for it, pick out a great design, and have a great item to show off every Saint Patrick’s day. From being Irish to looking for luck, you have choices as to what you are going to get your shamrock tattoos.

Good morning Ghaelach.
I agree that tattoos can hinder advancement in various careers if not placed correctly. I have one on my ankle that I adore but being on my ankle I have the ability to cover it if need be. Tattoos are not for everyone =)
Thank you for stopping by and I value your comment.
great hub :) theres loads of cool tatoos on show
I have to say I liked the Celtic tattoo best. I would never want one, as I don't think they express who I am about, but I like some, as long as they are just on the ankle or places not visible to others. : ) Good hub though! You did a great job!

Good morning MsHoliday.
I suppose it comes down to, do you like tattoo's or not.
I don't, but i wouldn't stop anyone from having one if they where old enough to know what they where doing and thats's coming from an old sea dog that i am. My sister-in-law has a large tattoo on her arm and i believe it has stopped her advancement in the world of being an actress. But that's just my feelings. lol
